About School Nursing

School nurses are registered nurses who operate in schools to provide clinical and educational assistance to students. School nurses play a critical role in providing medical surveillance, disease management, emergency preparation, medical case management and health education in the educational environment. As a specialized practice, school nurses also provide a critical role in facilitating collaboration between parents, teachers, students and clinical physicians to achieve optimal outcomes for students facing challenges to their well-being and academic success. School nurses also play a critical role in assisting teachers and school administrators meet their legal duty of care for the safety and welfare of students by providing professional judgement in OHS risk analysis of school activities.
